Born in San Francisco to Jacob and Zara Schlussel, Len graduated from George Washington High School. College was interrupted by WW II, and he served his country with pride as a member of the 100th Division. After the war he continued in the Army Reserves for ten years, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant.
Following the war, Len returned to UC Berkeley, receiving a BS degree in Business Admin, then a High School Teaching Credential from San Francisco State, and MA in Education from San Jose State.
In 1953 he married his soul-mate, Ruth Klein, and they enjoyed their life together until Ruth's death in 2006.
Len worked as a high school teacher and administrator in the East Side Union High School District in San Jose for 36 years. He was also self-employed as a Public Accountant and Enrolled Agent.
He is survived by his children, Karen and Steve Schlussel; sister, Midge (Armand) Offel; nephew, Jim (Nancy) Offel; nieces, Rabbi Janet (Michael) Offel-Nebenzahl, and Teri Rothschild; and grandniece, Bryn Lewin-Offel.
