Vita:
Born in Mingolsheim, amt Bruschal, Baden, Germany. He remained at home until 15 years of age when he was apprenticed to a tailor and learned tailoring. He traveled as a journeyman from 1846 to 1852. He then returned home and decided to immigrate, he came to America to St Louis in the spring of 1853 with his two sisters and two friends, he came to Highland in the summer of 1853. Soon after his marriage on 1 Mar 1854 he opened a tailor shop which he conducted for 15 years. He then opened a saloon, which he conducted for 27 years. He retired on 8 Sept 1895 with a farewell lunch to the public in general at his saloon.
