Brief overview:

Lettie (79), a farmers wife from Farm De Erf near Bultfontein in the Free State was found dead in her home on Sunday 20th February around 11h00.

It was initially thought that Lettie had died from natural causes, but after a post mortem it was uncovered that she had been strangled.

Spokesperson Capt. Stephen Thakeng, said a thorough investigation was carried out after the results of the post-mortem and it was determined that several items were missing from the farmhouse.

A 29-year-old suspect was arrested at an informal settlement in Phahamang. in possession of stolen items, which included, four laptops (USBs), cellphone, a laptop, 25 live rounds of rifle ammunition.

A case of murder and house robbery was opened. The suspect is facing charges of house robbery, murder, and possession of suspected stolen items and resisting arrest. The suspect was to appear on 28th February 2022 in Bultfontein Magistrate’s Court.

The 27 year-old is now on trial for murder, house robbery, possession of suspected stolen goods and resisting arrest. He is expected to appear in the magistrate's court in Bultfontein on Monday 1st March 2022.
