Levi Smith was born in Virgina in 1778, one of 12 children of Revolutionary War Patriot Aaron Smith, and his wife Sarah.
When he was 25 years old, Levi married Abigail Hartman in Clarksville, West Virginia in 1803. Eventually they traveled westward, making their home in Ohio to raise their family. They became parents to 10 known children: Abigail, Rebecca, Hiram, Austin, Aaron, Joseph, Rueben, Margaret, James and Sarah, all born in Virginia or Ohio.
The Smith family were farmers and part of the Quaker community.
Levi Smith died in Ohio in 1865, at the age of 87 years, 4 months, and 10 days.
