ELDER GOODSON - Dear Brother: By request, I send the obituary of Brother Lewis Huddleston, who departed this life December 11th, 1876. The subject of this notice was born in 1837, and was the son of Daniel Huddleston, who still lives. He united with the Regular Baptist Church in Macoupin Co., Illinois, in March, 1857, and was baptized the April following.
He was married to Miss L.J. Rusher in 1859, and emigrated to Bourbon County, Kansas, the same year.
Because one of the six organic members of Drywood church, at its constitution in the fall of 1866, was elected clerk, and served the church in that capacity until his death. He was nice, and amiable, a faithful husband, loving father, and a good citizen. Ever given to hospitality, firm in the doctrine of Grace, patient in sickness, cheerful in adversity, well versed in the scriptures and of accute understanding in spiritual things. He _____ but we sorrow not as these that have no hope.
When the mandate eternal
Bursts the cold tomb,
He will start into life
and eternally bloom
With all the blood-washed legions of Prince Immanuel, He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn their sad bereavement. May God give them grace sufficient for their day and trial, is the prayer of an unworthy Brother.
A. H.
