About Lewis Calvin Hudspeth

Lewis Calvin Hudspeth departed this life in Carroll Co., AR circa 1882 and was interred in the Lower Piney (Brushy) Cemetery near Metaltoa. In 1900 when the National Archives were burned in Washington DC destroying all of the census records of all the states for 1890 Sarah (Gage) Hudspeth was still living and she was in Osage Township with her son John F. She died during the early 1900's and she too is buried at Lower Piney - her grave and Lewis ajoin the grave of Lucretia (Wood) Gage but there are no markers.

Eleven children were born to the union of Lewis Calivin and Sarah Gage and those children are as follows:

  • A son born btwn 1833-35 unnamed and appears only on the federal census of 1840.
  • A son born btwn the yrs of 1836-40 also unnamed and died at an early age.
  • John Franklin b. June 1, 1839 Madison Co., Ar. m. (1) Lucille Jane Howard b. 1845 in Alabama, daughter of Obediah and Margaret (Griffen) Howard (2) Perlita bottoms the widow of Thomas Bottoms & both he and Lucille are interred in the Lower Piney Cemetery.
  • John Ahijah "Hige" b. 1841 Madison Co., AR. m. (1) Mary Henry, a daughter of George & Mary Henry and their children were Abe Hudspeth who raised 2 families that totaled about 16 children who grew to maturity in Carroll Co., AR.
  • John Alexander Jr.
  • William A. Hudspeth b. 1843 Madison Co. AR m. Sarah and moved to Springfield, MO after the civil war where he lived to be over 100 yrs. of age.
  • Amos Warren b. March 15, 1844 in Fairview, AR., now Osage.
  • Nancy Ellen b. 1847 Madison Co., AR
  • Frances Lucinda "Lucy" b. 1850 Carroll Co., AR
  • James Lewis "Jim" b. 1852 Carroll Co., AR
