About Lewis Tapp, II
Combining the ages from census years 1820 and 1830 for Lewis Tapp in Person County, North Carolina, would place his birth between 1766-1770 with 6 sons. Note error on page 28 of the Liles Fulcher Tapp book has Lewis Tapp (12/28/1797 - 8/13/1872) but as ?- ca 1845 on page 30. The 1797 date is more likely a marriage date. The LFT book only identifies 5 sons. In William Tapp's will in Texas, he names his brother Charles and his father Lewis Tapp of Person County, NC.
Personal correspondence with Debbie Tapp 2004
The estate records for Lewis Tapp (married Jennie Yancey) are in the North Carolina archives. Evidently he died without a will in 1844, so they had to sell everything and divide it among the heirs - there's lots of pages of all the items they sold. On the petition to sell the land (as well as other pages) it lists all of Lewis's children and states the number of children is 11. Heirs are listed as: "Henry Tapp, Joseph Brown and Elizabeth his wife, William Snipes and Mary his wife, Timothy Dunnegan and Nancy his wife, (grandchildren) Sally Ann and Elizabeth W. Tapp, the children of John Tapp, deceased, Samuel Briggs and Jane his wife, (grandchild) Martha Jane Townsend, daughter of Martha Townsend, deceased, the wife of Francis Townsend, Elijah Tapp, James Tapp, Charles Tapp and William Tapp". It mentions Charles and William are in Texas.
