About Lieut. Jacob Hicks

Adam and Anne Mott By Thomas Clapp Cornell

Jacob Hicks, the second son of above Thomas Hicks and Mary was born about 1669, and married probably about 1690, Hannah Carpenter, by whom he had ten children, I Samuel, 2 Stephen, 3 Thomas, 4 Joseph, 5 Jacob. 6BENJAMIN, 7 Elizabeth, 8 JOHN, 9 Sarah and Ю Hannah.

Jacob Hicks died in 1755, and he and his wife were buried in the old Hicks burial plot at Rockaway.

Jacob was the son of Thomas Hicks and Mary Butler.

Death: 22 MAR 1755 in Long Island, New York 1 Note: There is an April 10, 1738 muster roll of 'Captain Jacob Hicks Company ' of Hempstead. 2 Birth: ABT 1665 3 Birth: JUN 1669 in Hempstead, Nassau Co., New York 1 Religion: Jacob was impressed by the earnestness of the Friends but was a staunch member of St. George's Eposcopal Church at Hempstead. Thomas Chalkey , a powerful intinerant Quaker minister, lodged with him on two visits in the neighborhood but Jacob did not become a Quaker although he did open his home to the Friends for their monthly worship. The lingering emotionalism so strongly displayed by the sect in the previous generation disturbed him. 4
