About Lieutenant Thomas Crago, II

This man is the documented ancestor of more Crago's and Craigo's in America than any other person, excluding his parents. We know of 16 children. He was orphaned at age 11 when his father was killed by Indians attempting to take his horse without permission.

In 1790 Thomas Crago was a Lieutenant in the Washington Co, PA Militia. During the Revolutionary War, he apparently paid a Supply Tax which may qualify him for DAR/SAR. He resided in Washington Co during the RW, since Greene Co wasn't formed out of Washington Co until 1796. His military service and his residency are documented in the PA Archives. Lt Thomas Crago served in Capt Phelix Hughs Company of Major Volan Nicholas' 1st Battalion in Lt Col. John Guthery's 1st Regiment, 2nd Brigade of Washington Co, PA Militia. - see PA Archives, 9th Series, Vol. I, Part II: 644-45 & 3rd Series, Vol. XXII, Provincial Papers: Returns of Taxables, Washington Co, 1781: 721

His place of burial is not certain, but other related Crago's were buried in Hewitts Cemetery, so this seems to be a likely location.

An unnamed daughter was born about 1784 and died (or was possibly married) before 1820. The final resting places of Sarah Crago Rice, Mary Crago Ridge and Rachel Crago Ingram have also not been located.

He lived most of his life in Cumberland Twp, Greene Co., PA.
