Lilian's brother, Captain Peyton Wirtz (born January 6, 1907, Holland; immigrated Oct. 1907 - died February 24, 1979, St. Augustine, FL) was also in the Navy. In the Solomon Islands in 1942, he was commander of the Zane, in the Minesweeper Group (The Landing in the Solomons, 7-8 August 1942"). Peyton appears in 1920 census (Baltimore) as Benton/Beyton, 12, "born in Maryland".

Lilian's father was Bart Wirtz Nov. 4, 1875-June 1969, who was on the faculty of the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore (see Annual Report of the Peabody Institute of the City of Baltimore, Volumes 34-49, by Johns Hopkins University, Peabody Institute, page 6). He taught Cello. In 1918 when he registered for the World War I draft, his name appears as Bartholomew Christian Maris Wirtz, b. Nov. 4, 1875.

Mother of Lilian Wirtz Sylvester was Elizabeth Walaardt Sacré 1883-1955 (Lily). She married Bartholomeus Christiaan Marie Wirtz in 1903 at age 19. Her parents:
