Lillie Bell (Scoggin) Murrah was born in Tennessee and then lived in Arkansas. Her husband John Belvin Murrah, US Army WWI veteran, is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Her son John Edward Murrah; US Navy WWII veteran, is inurned at the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery. She is the mother of Velma Jean Ney, Thelma Mae Thomas, Evelyn Norfolk and Dorothy Noble. She also has eight sisters. She moved to Virginia from Arkansas in 1935.
From the 1930 federal census, Lily Murrah lived with her husband and children in Breckenridge, Jackson County, Arkansas. The family at the time consisted of:
