About Lillie Shepherd Timberlake
Lillie Shepherd Davis Timberlake was born in Decatur, Georgia August 25, 1918, the daughter of Robert Franklin Davis of Stevens Pottery, Georgia and Lillie Mae Shepherd of Madison, Georgia. Shep was raised in Decatur, Georgia, attended Decatur Girls School and the University of Georgia.
Noted lifelong for her grace and beauty, Shep married in Atlanta in 1941 to Dillard Munford. She led a busy social and civic life in Buckhead while raising five children. She was a member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church where she enjoyed Bible study and taught Sunday school for many years. Shep is remembered as a loving mother and beloved grandmother and as a caring and dear lady by all who knew her. Additionally, friends and family remember her for her organizational abilities as well as her wit and compassion. Shep had a long time appreciation and knowledge of antique ceramics. Later in her life she developed and pursued artistic endeavors for which she was appreciated and will be fondly remembered.
Shep is predeceased by her parents, brothers' Robert Davis and Wilson Davis and son, Dillard Munford, Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Dr. Lloyd Timberlake of Atlanta; daughter Page Munford Mallory of Cebu, Philippines and Augusta, Georgia; daughter Aubrey Munford and son's Robert "Bob" Munford and Henry Munford, all of Atlanta; grandchildren Lara Munford of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee; John "Will" Mallory IV of Martinez, Georgia; Shep Mallory Gallagher of Evans, Georgia; Clayton Joiner of Atlanta; Alexa Munford of Jacksonville, Florida; Robert "Grey" Munford and Dillard Ingram Munford of Los Angeles, California, and Henry "Mac" Munford of Atlanta; niece Louisa Davis Peacock of Atlanta; as well as ten great grandchildren.
Shep loved and enjoyed her extended Timberlake family including Lloyd "Tim" Timberlake of Washington D.C.; Anne Timberlake Wright and Dr. Mark Hurt Timberlake of Atlanta; and Susan Timberlake Walzer of Geneva, Switzerland; as well as the Timberlake grandchildren and other loving family members.
Shep Timberlake died peacefully on January 19, 2012 at age 93 in her residence at Lenbrook. Her loving husband and children were by her side. A visitation with family will be held at 10:00 a.m. January 28, 2012 at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. At 11:00 a.m. Shep's ashes will be interred in the churches Memorial Gardens and will be followed by a funeral service held in the Moore Chapel of the church. Long-time family friend, the Reverend Don Harp, will conduct services. Following the service a luncheon will be held for family members at Lenbrook.
