Lily Dickson, Mrs

1 of 9 of a family, 6 girls, 3 boys, her mother died with Cancer at the age of 51 when she was just 13 and the eldest in the house, so she had to play the part of mother so to speak. She work in an upholsterers for a while and also used to work for Paton and Baldwins, her knitting was so beautiful they used hers samples as the pictures you would see in thier knitting patters. Mother of 11 children, her first child, Robert, died in infancy at the age of 5months, he is buried with his grandfather and grandmother and now her brother John Hutchison who died 2013 age 83.

She worked in the Hollybank hotel and Kingsgate for many years in the kitchen and did a lot of the cooking. She also worked in the Garfield Hotel run by the Stirings. She juggled being a mother and work which was not easy having 10 children to bring up. 

Passed driving test when she was 67 and loved driving, she wanted to drive to take my father out as his legs had become weak sadly he never got in the car with her and he passed away 3 weeks later. She died at the age of 76 with Myloma, cancer of the blood, having been diagnosed 6 months prior to this. Yvonne
