Lina Killian (1956 - 2006)

Brief overview:

Lina (50), who was a diabetic and used crutches due back problems, and lived with her daughter, was found murdered in long grass near a small shopping centre in Duncanville, Vereeniging, on Monday 6th December 2006. Her naked body was found by a builder who was doing renovations to Lina's garden flat. She had been assaulted, beaten in the face with a brick and raped.

"It was terrible. I was shocked. My mother's face and head were a bloody pulp. Her legs were open and she was naked," said Belinda Minnie (24), Lina's daughter. "There was blood all over her legs and her clothes, too," said Minnie.

Lina and her husband Philip had moved from Vereeniging centre to live their daughter and son-in-law's (Chris) house for security reasons. Chris said he had persuaded his parents-in-law to move in with them, as Philip worked night shifts and he was afraid that something could happen to Lina.

Lina had taken her crutches and walked to the shopping centre to draw money. Police initially suspected that the cash she had withdrawn, her jewellery and bankcards had been stolen, but everything was there when the the family went to the mortuary to identify her body.

  • The police put together an identikit of the attacker. According to police spokesperson, insp. Trudie Wilken, the suspect was a young man with a shaved head, about 1.7m tall, slim build and was wearing an orange coloured T-shirt and blue trousers.
