About Loeb Wetzlar

This name from the 18th century Frankfurt Judengasse is mentioned in book written for youth, "The Light from the West" by Selig Schachnowitz b 5634/1874 (the English translated version published by Feldheim Publishers 5729/1969), which is a biography of https://www.geni.com/people/ר-משה-סופר-הת-ם-סופר/6000000001398290180 Rav Moshe Sopher the Chatam Sopher.

It became known that Loeb WETZLAR was the anonymous author of the thirty page pamphlet against Nathan Adler's kabbalistic community Rabbi Nathan Adler , "Ha-Chasid" - rumor had it but not confirmed and possibly it was only rumor and not fact, that the kabbalistic community "excommunicated" him. Whatever, the issue escalated so as to cause the established Frankfurt community to persuade Rav Nathan to leave Frankfurt (see his Geni profile), but this turned out to be temporary.

Through Geni it has been established that the wife of Rav Nathan - Rachel - was also from the Wetzlar family, so it would not be surprising if these are the same family. On the other hand, for this to be the same biological family through paternal relationships, this Loeb would need to be a kohen like Rachel was a daughter of a kohen (in addition to being the wife of a kohen). There is also the possibility that Rachel's father Feisch took on family name WETZLAR from maternal ancestry. BTW, a lot of the females from the WETZLAR family (who are not daughters of kohanim) married men who were kohanim (by family name Ka"tz etc.), and although might be coincidence, it seems to have been a trend.

Of course, this WETZLAR might be completely unrelated to Feisch who used this to indicate that his family were from this nearby town Wetzlar before they came to Giessen.

On the Ele Toldot sheet for Loeb HO 2883 son of Josbel, his son David Tewele and his son Josef Josbel are shown correctly, but the Ester HO 3359, who is shown is actually the daughter of Loeb (of Hanau) son of Josel. Because he did not live in Frankfurt, there is no Ele Toldot sheet for Loeb, son of Josel, but those of his children or grandchildren who DO have sheets (his dau. Zerle HO 4526, his granddau. Rechle HO 4620 e' Salomon Bendit Goldschmidt Kassel, (daughter of his dau Rechle, who died in childbirth), and his daughter, Ester HO 3359, offer very helpful clues.
