Lorene was the daughter of Joseph E. Sehon and Leah N. Cobb Sehon. On 7 September 1933, Lorene Sehon and Heber Lee Smith were married in Union County, Arkansas. Linda Sue, Harvey K. and Julian Lee Smith were the children of Lorene and Heber Smith.

Alexander "Sanders" Cobb, Lorene's great great grandfather, was a soldier from Edgefield County, South Carolina in the War of 1812.
