About Loretta June Slaton
Mom used to be a real good cook, but later on she cooked less and less and Dad did most of it. She used to make the best pies.
She both finished high school and went to college after we were born, and then taught school in East Alton, IL., for many years. One of her friends was Rochelle Wilson from Staunton, IL, and they went to school together. She was in the first class at Southern Illinois University.

Her last 2 days - she was sent to Alton Memorial hospital by ambulance - not a new experience for her. She had also been to Barnes-Jewish Hospital several times before by ambulance. They called from the hospital and said her Doctor wanted her sent to Barnes-Jewish. I said OK. Some time after she passed away, I got the bill and this time they had sent her from Alton Memorial to Barnes-Jewish by "Rotary Wing Transport" at a cost of about $52,403.88. Her insurance negotiated it down, but still??? Just from Alton to St. Louis.
