Lorraine Margaret Anderson Hough

God saw that you were getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come to me." Our precious mom, Lorraine Margaret Anderson Hough passed away on April 23, 2010 after receiving the Anointing of the Sick on April 22, 2010. She was 76 years old. Lorraine was cared for at home and was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing. She was a resident of Fortuna, California and a former resident of Willow Creek, California. Lorraine was born on June 29, 1933 to Herman Alfred Anderson originally from Sweden and Marie R. Peterson of Beatrice, Humboldt Country. She lived in Rio Dell in the home built by her father who was a local contractor. After the early loss of her beloved father, she relocated to the Mattole Valley where she lived with her mother and stepfather, Leonard I. Meland. Her parents ran the Honeydew Store and Post Office. She attended local schools. Lorraine married Harold O. Hough on March 23, 1951. This is when she began her greatest life work, the raising of her four children. Although so talented in so many areas and extremely bright, it was her role as a mother that she took the most seriously. Because of our mom, our childhood was happy, holidays were special, and we knew beyond a doubt just how cherished we were. She worried so much about her children that we joked with her until the end, "Mom it's time to get up and start worrying!" Lorraine is survived by her children, Bill Hough (Loretta) of Willow Creek, Frank Hough (Cheryl) of Eureka and the Mattole Valley, Barbara Sisson (Linn) of Fortuna, and Sandy Gilmore (Darrell) of Fortuna. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mark Hough (Stacey) of Hydesville, Jessica Cervantes (Raphael) of Fortuna, Ross Hough of Fortuna, Jim Murray (Sasha) of Hydesville, Brian Sisson of Fortuna, Bret Rinehart (Shannon) of Eureka and the Mattole Valley, and Nick Rinehart (Heather) of Eureka. She is also survived by thirteen great grandchildren and her brother Alfred Anderson (Jan) of Redcrest. Lastly, she is survived by her four-legged companion Wee Willy V who remains in the care of her oldest son. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, her precious granddaughter Hillary L. Hough, and her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Adrian LaCrampe. Lorraine was a past member of Xi Phi Omicron Sorority, a member of the Rohnerville Redwood Chapter No. 76 Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Catholic Church. Our mom will be laid to rest with her father at Sunset Memorial Park, Eureka, California. Friend and family are invited to graveside services to be held on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Our family would like to thank Dr. Don Baird and Dr. Michael Palmer for their compassionate care and also Hospice of Humboldt. We would also like to thank Tina Metheny for helping us care for mom and making it possible to keep her home. A farewell message from Mom; "Be safe out there and don't forget to have something to eat".
