Loryn Monakane (1975 – 2014)

Brief overview:

Loryn (39), was raped and shot in the face when three attackers invaded the farm of the Monakane's on 14th May 2014. Her husband Andrew Monakane (39), was shot dead. Loryn died in her home a day after her release from hospital. The couple leaves behind their 11 year-old daughter Mami, who went to live with her Grandmother in Botshabelo.

The farm Graigmont, home of Andrew and Loryn Monakane (both 39 ) , now stands empty and abandoned in the merciless cold winter of the State .

This emerging farmers * earlier this month in a gruwelnag on their farm between Dewetsdorp and Botshabelo (near Silay and the Lesotho border ) attacked and shot .

Andrew died on the scene , but Loryn fought for her life in a Bloemfontein hospital after the robbers raped her and shot her in the face. A day after she was discharged , the homestead collapsed, and so under the same roof as her husband died .

Ishmael Mafosi (35) , Teboho French Khoantle (31) and John Pitseng (32) of Botshabelo were arrested . The Monakanes 's plasma TV , a pistol , DVD player and double cab bakkie at their place .

The court proceedings were postponed until May 29 .

Relatives of the Monakanes after the attack home ware removed for fear that it could be looted .

All the empty farm house left behin , is a hungry baby kitte , bloodstains on the wall and a forgotten letter from their 11 - year-old daughter , Mami , which reads :

" Dear Mama , I just want to say hello to you because i know I love you . Mama , I love you so much."

Mami lives with her grandmother in Botshabelo since the attack.

According to Sgt . Yanga Ngcukana , police said she was happy the night of the attack at home .

" I'm looking for another job , " said Josias Mololekwa the Monakanes 's herdsman . " I now have no more money. "

Things that once successful farm now rapidly deteriorating .

On the site are two farm dogs without food and water * chained trees - probably left for dead .

Mololekwa not even know who the animals now have to look , because the traumatized family members home as quickly evacuated arrangements that they could strike .

The pig pens are empty and Goodness knows where the sheep and chickens disappeared .

" I use only the cattle , " said Mololekwa . " I give them food . "

The Monakanes is part of a group of black farmers after land reform demands * a farm in the district Dewetsdorp received .

These farmers are working systematically to make a success of the small capacity that they have to their disposal.

John Lemphane, one of the Monakanes 's neighbors on the farm Kilmanok , is one of those farmers .

" We do great things here , though we are small ground , " he said .

" But these people make me frightened . Tomorrow shoot them just for me .

"I know Andrew well .

" The farmers in this area have all been buddies . The white farmers are our buddies . If there is trouble , then they can help us . "

" Andrew was a good man , " said Willie Lombard , president of the farmers association, Dewetsdorp .

" He was definitely an asset . He participated in all the meetings and farmers meetings we have arranged . He was very involved . "
