About Lottie Christensen
Lottie Empey Christensen, 90, a longtime Shelley resident, died Sept. 2, 1998, at an Idaho Falls care center.
She was born Nov. 22, 1907, at Ammon, Idaho, to Alfred Empey and Maria Lewis Empey. She attended schools in Ammon and graduated from Idaho Falls High School, where she played on the Girls Basketball Team.
On Jan. 4, 1928, she married Leland C. Christensen at Pocatello, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Following their marriage, they farmed and ranched east of Shelley, Idaho. Her husband died in 1974, and she continued to live in Shelley until moving to a care center in 1997.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had served in all of the women's auxiliaries in the church. She served with her husband in the Shreveport Louisiana Mission. For 20 years, she served in the Idaho Falls Temple, and was on the building committee for the Shelley 3rd Ward. She enjoyed gardening, canning and crocheting. She and her husband were members of the Merry Mixers Bowling League.
Survivors include her son, Keith L. Christensen (wife, Jean) of Shelley; two daughters, Leola Maria Kelley (husband, Norman) of Shelley, and Daris Tomlinson of Monteview, Idaho; 16 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by four brothers, five sisters, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Shelley LDS South Stake Center with Bishop David Johnson, of the Shelley 7th Ward, officiating. The family will meet with friends at Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley.
