Born in New York City Dec. 12, 1896, he was a son of Isaac and Esther Schienberg [sic] Blumenthal. On Sept. 23, 1949, he married the former Esther Chavin, who survives.

Mr. Blumenthal had been a resident of Olean since 1939 and owned and operated Lou's Cut Rite Store on N. Union St, where the Midtown Liquor Store is now located.

Following service in the Army during World War II, Mr. Blumenthal returned to Olean and with his son, Jack Blumenthal, established Blumenthal's Sporting Goods Store, of which he was president and treasurer.

Surviving, in addition to his widow and son of Olean, are two daughters, Mrs, Paul (Vivian) Danziger of New Hyde Park and Miss Jeannette Blumenthal at home; six grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Blumenthal of New York City and Abe Blumenthal of Greensboro, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Horowitz of Long Island, Mrs. Elsie Richter of Albany and Mrs. Isadore (Jessie) Rappoport of Olean; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Blumenthal was a member of Temple B'nai Israel and B'nai Brith Lodge 1838, both of Olean. He had also served for a short time in the Army during World War I.

Friends are being received at the Halwig Funeral Home Inc., 117 Hamilton St, Olean, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held there Tuesday (July 18, 1972) at 2:30 p.m. Cantor Benjamin Davis of the Temple B'nai Israel will officiate.
