FREDERIC, son of THIERRY de Mousson & his wife Ermentrude de Bourgogne [Comt%C3%A9] ([1074/78]-19 Jul [1160], bur Oelenberg). ... m secondly ETIENNETTE de Vaudémont, daughter of GERARD Comte de Vaudémont [Lorraine] & his wife Heilwig von Egisheim (-[4 Dec 1160/1188], bur Oelenberg). ... Comte Frédéric & his second wife had one child:

  1. LOUIS [I] de Ferrette (-1180). The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names "comitis Ludovici" as son of "Fredericum de Ferretes"[315]. "Fridericus comes de Firretho cum uxore mea Stephania et filio meo Lodoyco" founded the monastery of Feldbach by charter dated 1144[316]. He succeeded his father in [1160] as Comte de Ferrette. "Ludovicus comes Ferretensis et dominus de Wadens" confirmed donations to the abbey of Rosières by "domini Vualcherii Salinensis et…domini Friderici imperatoris", previous holders of the castle of Vadans {Vadans, canton d´Arbois, Jura}, by charter dated 1173[317]. "Ludvicus comes Ferret, Odo comes de Rupe" are named as present in a charter dated 6 Sep 1178 which records a judgment by Emperor Friedrich I "Barbarossa" in favour of the abbey of Baume-les-Dames[318]. He was the heir of his maternal uncle Olry de Vaudémont Comte d'Egisheim in 1187[319]. He participated in the Third Crusade and was present at the siege of Acre in 1190[320]. m RICHENZA von Habsburg, daughter of WERNER [I] Graf von Habsburg & his wife --- (-Dec 1180). A Habsburg genealogy names "Adelberctum, Gerdrudem de Mümpelgard, Richenzam de Fierrito" as the children of "Wernherus"[321]. Louis [I] & his wife had three children:
  • a) ULRIC (-murdered 27 Sep 1197). He succeeded his father in 1180 as Comte de Ferrette. He was assassinated on the orders of Othon Comte Palatin de Bourgogne[322]. The Annales Maurimonesterienses record that "Hulricus comes" was killed in 1197[323].
  • b) LOUIS [II] (-1189). He succeeded as Comte de Ferrette, Seigneur de Vadans. He died while on Crusade[324]. m AGNES von Sogren, daughter of UDELARD [II] Graf von Sogren [Soybi%C3%A8res/Saugern] & his wife Adelheid ---. Louis & his wife had one child:
    • i) FRIEDRICH [II] (-murdered [1232/25 Jan 1233]). He succeeded as Comte de Ferrette. - see below.
