Born at Mount Vernon, Virginia, daughter of Colonel John Augustine Washington of "Blakeley", Jefferson County, a descendent of Pres. George Washington's brother, John Augustine who inherited Mount Vernon and left it to his son mentioned aforesaid. She married Lt. Colonel Roger Preston Chew in 1871 and they took up residence at "Blakeley". She shares the tall Obelisk with her husband and also has an inscription on her father's monument as well.
