Albert Kintzing Post was born January 5, 1843 in the city of New York to Abraham and Matilda Eaton Post. He attended college in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He served during his senior year, October 8, 1862 to July 8, 1863 as 2nd lieutenant in the 45th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. After graduation he resided in New York City. He married Marie de Trobriand, an Italian ancestry woman who was the daughter of General Regis de Trobriand and his wife Mary M. Jones. The couple had three children, Lina Beatrice, Waldron Kintzing and Regis Henri Post. On July 5, 1872, while on vacation in Westhampton, Long Island, he spotted a boy struggling against the undertow. According to his obituary, he was very helpful and decided he would go out and help. Despite his skill at swimming, the undertow took Albert also and his family helplessly watched as both he and the boy drowned.
