About Lt. Clay Pell
Herbert Claiborne Pell IV, better known as Clay Pell, is an American government official. In addition to serving as a lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard, he is also a JAG lawyer and is the director for strategic planning of the White House's National Security staff.
The grandson of famed U.S. Sen. H. Claiborne Pell, Clay is from a very connected and wealthy Rhode Island political family. He is a graduate of Harvard College and Georgetown Law School. In 2011-2012, he was selected as a White House Fellow for National Security.
According to MilitaryTimes.com, Lt. Pell
graduated first in his class from the Coast Guard Direct Commission Officer School. As a judge advocate general for the Coast Guard, he regularly works with China to improve military diplomacy, teaches classes on human rights and military justice and has prosecuted crimes for the Marine Corps.
On January 19, 2013, Lt. Pell married American superstar figure skater Michelle Kwan.
