About Lt. Colonel Thomas Craig Harkness, (USA)
Captain Thomas Craig Harkness: Was a Scottish Immigrant who served in the Illustrious 81st Pennsylvania Regiment “The Fighting Chippewas” in The American Civil War. He entered the war a private, was promoted to Major, on April 17, 1863. Eventually reaching the rank of Captain and was discharged with a rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
During his tenure he was wounded at the Battle of Charles City Cross Roads, on June 30, 1862, and in the Battle of Fredericksburg, Va., on December 13, 1862.He was once again was wounded at the Battle of Chancellorsville, Va., on May 3, 1863. Despite his many brushes with death he survived the war.
