A Civil War Surgeon: 1.2.2.4.13.1.9.1 Giles Moseley, son of Doctor Giles (Giles, Noah, Robert, Robert, John, Robert) and Mabel R. (Mosely) Pease; b. May 03, 1839 in Boston, MA; d. Dec 14, 1891 in San Francisco, CA; m. Gertrude Sweetser; b. in Chelsea, MA. Even with the lack of the best of health, Giles M. Pease did not let his problems hinder his education, and the pursuit of a medical profession. He attended Harvard Medical College, and just prior to graduation, was appointed acting assistant surgeon in the United States Navy, during the Civil War, until the winter of 1862-63.

During that time, he served on the "Bohio" in the West Gulf from Dec 18, 1861- Nov 19, 1862. His reputation as a skilled surgeon and successful treatment of yellow fever in his squadron, earned him high honors. But his own ill health forced Surgeon Pease to return home. During this time, he obtained his diploma from Harvard in 1863, and rejoined the service in the army as a First Lieutenant, and assistant surgeon with the 54th Massachusetts Infantry. The trials of the battlefield, and the unsanitary conditions took their toll on Dr. Pease’ s health, and he was again forced to resign on May 28, 1864. He was able to resume his practice in Boston, and became very popular among his patients and fellow colleagues, highly regarded as a skilled, tactful, and brilliant homeopathic surgeon. Dr. Pease was a member of the American, Massachusetts, and Boston Homeopathic Medical Societies.

He was an inventor of surgical instruments, which were documented in the Medical Investigator, of which he was a contributing editor. For two years, he was Chairman of the Committee on Surgery of the State Society, and two years, professor of Anatomy in the Boston Dental College. Children of Giles M. and Gertrude (Sweetser) Pease born in San Francisco, CA:
