John Holden was held captive by the Indians in Canada (for one year and ten months) as told byr Stephen Holden. John Holden served in the campaign against the Indians in 1734, under Captain William Tyng, as we learn from the petition of his son Caleb Holden to the General Court in 1773, setting forth the above fact and that John Holden was consequently entitled to one right in the township granted Tyng's command, which township, upon the establishment of the line between Massachusetts and New Hampshire, fell in the latter province and was lost to the grantees. Caleb was then of Deerfield, MA, and named as other heirs, Amos, Isaiah, Nehemiah and David Holden, Sarah Hartwell, Rachel Gould, and Hannah Blood.
