To Lucia
Fair little blossom of the bittersweet, Warm loving sunshine on your hillside home Draws to the breeze the roses' sweet perfume Soft'ning the gloom and pain of our defeat
Dear kimplled soul that to our world was born, Kismet or karma, destiny or fate Hard had decreed you could not tarry late, Yet will your mem'ry long our hearts adorn.
You purged our lives of cruel selfishness; Success through failure--your life taught us this Pleasure breeds pain, but[ after pain- a kiss; True life is service, love and kindliness.
