Lucian C. Palmer

 Funeral services were held sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the United Church of Stanton for Lucian C. Palmer, 88, who died at his home here Thursday evening, April 9.  Rev. O. W. Westphal, pastor of the United Church, officiated.

  Mr. Palmer, one of twin sons, was born to Marcellus and Mary Palmer on September 24, 1853, at Centerville, Allegheny county, New York, and came to Ionia with his parents in 1864 where they spent a short time before coming to Day township, Montcalm county, to homestead a tract of land.

 In October, 1877 he was united in marriage with Jessie M. Luce of Westville, with whom he celebrated sixty years of married life at their home here in 1937.  Mrs. Palmer passed away on April 13, 1938.

 He was admitted to the bar in 1886 and was actively engaged in the legal profession until his retirement in 1923 at the age of 70.

 Mr. and Mrs. Palmer moved to Stanton from day township in January 1889

 Mr. Palmer served as Judge of Probate for the County of Montcalm from 1890 to 1893, and as supervisor from Stanton for six years, 1930 to 1936.

 Besides Mrs. Palmer, he was preceded in death by a son, L. Earl, in August 1918, and a grandson, Donald Palmer, who was killed in the Canadian Air Service in January, 1942.

 Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ella P. Rasmussen of Stanton and Mrs. Grace M. Buchholtz of Lakeview; two sons, Harry W. of Stanton, and Carl S. of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
