The descendants of James Dillard and Lucy Wise according to H. Moorman Dillard are left attached to allow for future research into proving or disproving their existence. Many of H. Moorman Dillard's lines and descendants in later years have been proven to be correct. His errors seem to begin with the Disproven James Stephen Dillard and the big Williamsburg plantation myth.

These three children of James and Lucy Wise Dillard do have online lineages.

1. Sarah "Sally" named as one of the descendants of James and Lucy Wise Dillard was married to Joseph Alexander Adair, Jr. and died before 1812 in Duncan's Creek, Laurens, South Carolina.

2. William Terry Dillard another child named by H. Moorman also has a wife and daughter that is now proven.

3. Stephen Dillard is the ancestor of H. Moorman Dillard's line.

Research is still ongoing on the other children listed in H. Moorman Dillards genealogy.

Other information about Capt. James Dillard's father comes from Sweeney's "Virginia in the Revolution". In her book, Sweeny places the father of Capt. James Dillard and the grandfather of James Dillard, Jr. as James Dillard, a Captain in the French & Indian war, who died in Amherst in 1768.

"There were three James Dillards living in Amherst Co., during the Revolution:

• Capt. James Dillard (b. 1727: d.1794), son of Capt. James Dillard (d.1768) of the French & Indian War;
• Capt. James Dillard, Jr., an officer in the Contl. Army; and
• Capt. James Dillard (b. 1744; d. 1823), son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Holliday) Dillard of Spotsylvania Co., Va."

Lucy has been shown as the daughter of William Wise and his wife Elizabeth Demark. Research of this family has revealed other children, but no daughter Lucy. She has therefore been de-linked from these parents.

The only source of Lucy Wise's existence is a discredited 1906 article by H. M. Dillard.

Lucy Wise was born about 1707 in Virginia. She died about 1787 in Amherst, Virginia.She was married about 1724. Source [
