Barre evening telegram., March 24, 1899
Death of Mrs. Fifield Mrs. Lucy Hubbard Fifield, wife of Hon. B. F. Fifield, of Montpelier, died at 6 o'clock yesterday morning after a long illness, lasting over a period of two years, during which lime she has been in an unconscious and semiunconsciounstate all of the time.
Mrs. Fifield's death was not unexpected yet it was sudden. Mr. Fifield went last week to Boston because of his health. He was summoned home Tuesday by telegraph, reaching here the same night. Mrs. J. F. Workman, a daughter, of New York, was also called.
Mrs. Fiflield's condition grew gradually worse until the end came yesterday morning. The beginning of Mrs. Fiflield's ill health commenced several years ago from Bright's disease. This was followed by an attack of apoplexy, which completely prostrated her and from which she never recovered.
The shock occurred in January, two years ago. Since then she has lain as one dead, utterly unconscious, and as if she were suffering patiently until the Reaper should appear.
Mrs. Fiflield was a native of Montpelier, having been born May 6, 1838. Her father was Erastus Hubbard, and her mother Arabella Blake Hubbard, Mrs. Hubbard, her mother is still living She has one brother, John L Hubbard. Three daughters survive, Mrs. B. B. Bailey of Montpelier, Mrs. J. F. Workman of New York, and Miss Nellie, who resides at home.
The funeral is to take place Saturday at 2:30 p. m. from the house, Rev. A. N. Lewis officiating. The burial will be in Green Mount cemetery.
