Lucy Wolcott

Lucy White was the daughter of Capt Daniel White and Elizabeth Bliss. She is linked to their UNKNOWN burial's until other memorials are found. She married Joseph French about 1730. They were blessed with 4 children. In August of 1740 Joseph and their 4 children all died from an epidemic within a few days of each other. The bodies were cremated as was the custom to control further outbreak.

Lucy survived the epidemic and wed Josiah Wolcott on April 23, 1740 in Saybrook, Pennsylvania. Together they were blessed with twelve children, per books of the early 1900's..Lucy died of smallpox in 1760 and her body was cremated.

There has been much confusion as to Lucy and Josiah being the father of PVT Silas Wolcott. Until Sources are found which show different parents, I am using as a source "Wolcott Genealogy : The Family of Henry Wolcott by Chandler Wolcott; c. 1912 and Pioneer and patriot families of Bradford County, Pennsylvania C. 1913. I have attached copies to this memoiral.

DNA is nice to a point, but according to DNA researchers and experts, "In general, DNA showing ethnicity below about 5% and past five generations, is viewed as somewhat questionable and below 2% is often considered to be “noise.” Intra-continental (regional) ethnicity breakdowns are particularly difficult." Therefore, I am staying with the original names of his parents as my sources indicate. If you have SOURCES such as a birth record or census showing family group I will consider changing the parents of Silas. Other merge data has birth of 1710 and death of 1755.
