Biography

Lucy Palmer was born 2 September 1764 to Jedediah and Esther (Reed) Palmer of Norwich, Connecticut.[1]

Note

This Lucy Palmer may be confused with the Lucy Palmer who on 11 Mar 1781 at Stonington, Connecticut, became the spouse of James York, and with whom she may have had at least 5 children. This relationship is portrayed by the Find-A-Grave reference Find A Grave: Memorial #20772498, which of course is unsourced, thus not intrinsically accurate. Probitive investigation should be performed to confirm or refute the identity of the two profiles.

If the spousal relationship with James York is true, then the 28 Jan 1790 temporal overlap with spouse Jesse Barnes, as currently profiled, must be addressed in view of the 22 May 1790 birth date of her final child (Nabby) with James York. Perhaps important to the investigation is that according to the Brown genealogy James York died by drowning at Stonington (date not evident) Amos Eagle Elliston.

Thus whereas it is conceivable that James may have died during the early gestational period of Nabby, and that Lucy married in January 1790 to Jesse Barnes before Nabby was born in May 1790, there is no overt evidence that this sequence pertained to the biography of this particular Lucy Palmer. Incongruent with this logic is the Find-A-Grave reference Find A Grave: Memorial #20772491 for James York, stating that he didn't die until 1833. We are unconfident in the Find-A-Grave listings for either Lucy Palmer or James York.

Somewhat relevant may be the above cited Find-A-Grave listing of a sibling of Lucy named Judith Barnes, which of course adds an element of confusion to the investigation because it interjects the Barnes surname to the overall picture.

Also relevant are the discrepant death data between the Find-A-Grave reference (3 Apr 1793 at North Stonington) and the 19 Dec 1808 at Franklin, as currently profiled.

All of the above taken into consideration, it may be that there were at least two, perhaps three, distinct Lucy Palmer named individuals living contemporaneously in the same general geography; thus the following segments of this biography may not necessarily pertain to this Lucy Palmer.
