Ludmilla Mary Valek

Age 93, dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother, received a well-deserved reward, when she passed peacefully at the Long Term Care Center-Northfield Hospital. She was the daughter of Frank A. and Ludmilla A. (Skluzacek) Jirik, of Wheatland Township. On September 29, 1941, she married George J. Valek, son of Paul and Mary (Hovorka) Valek, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lonsdale, and together they farmed for four decades near Webster before retiring to Northfield. “Ludy,” as she was affectionately called, lived a life of service, with church and family at the center. She was a member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church. Her life as a farm wife and mother suited her well. She loved cooking and baking. Her kolackies, breads, rolls and pies often graced the dinner table, as well as church festivals and bake sales. She also found great joy in tending to her well-manicured vegetable and flower gardens. She was preceded in death by her husband George; sons: Donald, Thomas and Kenneth; sisters: Alice Novak and Sister Bernice Jirik OSF; brothers: Thomas Jirik, Frank R. Jirik and Joseph Jirik in infancy; sisters- and brothers-in-law: Esther Jirik, Bert Raney, Emil, (Mabel) Valek, Emma (George) Tupa, and Helen (Andrew) Sipera; as well as her parents and parents-in-law.
