About Luigi Vannuccini

Luigi Vannuccini was an Italian singing teacher, orchestra conductor and composer.

He started music studies with his father Ernesto, who in Florence had been a singing teacher of Adelina Patti, and he continued in the conservatory of Tuscany. He was violinist of the theater Leopoldo (old theater Nazionale) and between 1848 and 1873 he directed operas in the Theater of La Pergola. He was also a famous concert pianist.

In addition, in Florence, he founded a singing school that soon acquired wide fame, not only in Italy, but also abroad. He was an intimate friend of Rossini. He was part of the historic < Quartetto Fiorentino > with Giuseppe Buonamici, Bruni and Jefte Sbolci. He was well liked as a teacher and speaker, also in England, and in London he published a collection of Solfeggi taken from the best Italian vocal tradition.

He composed sacred music, works for piano and chamber songs.

As a singing teacher he was very influencal, and his methods are often called the "Vannuccini school".
