About Lulu Libbie Spencer
Lulu Libbie had a short life. The only person who could tell me about my grandmother was her husband, my Grandpa (Leroy) Spencer. He told me she had beautiful long red hair and he immediately fell in love with her while he walked her home from school. They married and lived in Shenandoah for awhile. Their son,Melvin, was born there. But, Grandpa said work got short so they moved to Butte, Montana. My Uncle David was born there, just as the 1918 flu pandemic struck. Lulu died from the flu and Grandpa was in the hospital and Melvin and David were about to be sent to an orphanage. They were rescued when Lulu's mother traveled by train from Shenandoah and took the boys home with her. Lulu was buried in Butte.
