Luther was the eldest son of Silas and Julia Lowry Deese. His first marriage was to Mary Brayboy. He married Fannie about 1880 according to the 1900 Federal Census.

The following was taken from the Nov. 27, 1939 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:

LARGE CROWD ATTENDS RITES FOR LUTHER DEES, INDIAN

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Harpers Ferry church for Luther Dees, Indian, about 65 to 70 years of age. Rev. T. M. Sweatt conducted the final rites, attended by a large crowd. Dees died Thursday following several weeks illness.

He is survived by his wife and several children. Pallbearers were Tommie Cummings, Lonnie Owens, William V. Hunt, Leslie Jacobs, Clifton Hunt, Carson Locklear. Flowerbearers: Armenda Brooks, Julie Mae Jacobs, Odessa Lowry, Lorine Hunt, Cletia Oxendine, Mercell Locklear, Earlene Lowry, Dovie Cummings, Ina Locklear.
