ST. ALBANS – Lydia E. Emery, 87, died Dec. 25, 2005, at a Portland nursing home. She was born Aug. 3, 1918, in St. Albans, a daughter of Charles and Nena (Nichols) Ross. Lydia graduated from Goodwill High School, Class of 1937, and attended Beal’s Business College in Bangor. She was a member of the St. Albans Union Church and the ENCORE Group (Cancer Survivors Support Group) of Sebasticook Valley Hospital. She worked for 30 years as a stitcher at several of the local shoe shops. Lydia enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and music, but her first love was writing poetry. She is survived by three sons, Duane Emery of Lebanon, Tenn., Larry Emery of Arlington, Va., and Barry Emery of Locust Grove, Ga.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Durward Emery in 1989. Funeral services will be held in the spring at the St. Albans Union Church with burial in the Village Cemetery in St. Albans.
