About Lydia Ellen Tigner

Lydia Ellen Noland was the youngest of six children born to Pierce Noland (c.1756-1816) and his wife Mary Field (c.1760-1846). Her paternal grandparents were Pierce Noland and his wife Sarah Awbrey; and her maternal grandparents were William Field, Jr. (c. 1726-1805) and his wife Lydia Elswick (1743-c.1829).

Lydia's parents moved from North Carolina to Georgia around 1793, and she was born there. When she was a small child, they came to the West Florida provinces, then Spanish territory, by about 1802. They eventually settled near Fort Adams, in what is now Wilkinson County, Mississippi; but I think they also owned land in the Feliciana Parishes of Louisiana.

Lydia Ellen married William Tigner (c.1787-1854) on 6 Nov. 1820. They had the following children: Amanda Caroline Tigner (md. 1. Robert T. Ogden on 14 March 1839 - md. 2. W. L. Frazier,); Clark H. Tigner (c. 1825, m. Martha Louise ?); Sarah Jane Tigner (c.1829, md. Joseph D. Womack on 8 June 1851, Wilkinson Co., Miss.); Eliza Ellen Tigner (c.1832, m. 1. Lewis H. Bryan, 2. Mr. Harris); William Noland Tigner (31 Oct. 1833-30 April 1863, d. Richland, La., m. Mary Eliza Palmer on 22 May 1856); Lydia Julia Tigner (c.1838-c.1901, m. Capt. Thomas Vaughn Noland, a cousin.)

Lydia Ellen lived in Wilkinson County; but apparently took refuge during the War with her youngest daughter Lydia Julia Tigner, Mrs. Vaughn Noland. Lydia Ellen and her baby granddaughter, Lydia Field Noland, died in the aftermath of the Seige of Vicksburg, when the yankees had overrun the countryside.
