About Machteld Johanna Mellink
- WWII : During the war years MELLINK joined the Dutch Resistance to actively fight the injustice of the Nazi regime in her country. She got involved in forging documents to save lives, risking her own. This selfless courage remained her defining trait throughout. Perhaps it was the Resistance years that shaped her as one who never talked about herself or any of her accomplishments, let alone brave deeds. She remained a Dutch citizen all her life, traveling with a Dutch passport inspite of her intellectual and actual habitat in the United States.
- 2006 : Her ashes were scattered in the plain of Elmalı, which lies at the heart of ancient Lycia in Turkey
