About Major George Edward Pickett, Jr.

United States Army Officer. He was son of the Confederate Major General George Edward Pickett, who led "Pickett’s Charge" on the third day of Battle of Gettysburg. He attended Virginia Military Institute from August 1878 and graduated in the class of 1883. Upon the ourbreak of the Spanish-American War, he entered the United States Army as a volunteer paymaster (May 1898). After the war was concluded he remained in the United States Regular Army Active, reciving a commission on February 8, 1901.

He served a number of years as a Major in the Paymaster Corps. He married Ida Elizabeth Christiancy, daughter of the honorable Henry C. Christancy of Michigan on November 3, 1891. On March 9, 1901, while serving with the Army in the Philippines during the Philippine Insurrection, he paricipated in a fire fight that won him a recommendation for a Medal of Honor. He died at sea returning from the Philippines on an Army transport ship in April 1911.
