About María Francisca Montoya
Francisca Montoya is identified as the daughter of Diego Montoya and Josefa de Ynojos based on the following circumstantial evidence:
Francisca Montoya was a known wife of Baltasar Romero. (Roots, Vol.2, p.218) Angelico Chavez states that Diego Montoya and Josefa Hinojos had a daughter, name not known, who was the second wife of Baltasar Romero. (Origins, p.236) Diego Montoya passed muster in 1680 with his wife and two children - unnamed. (Origins, p.78)
Twelve years later, in 1692, Diego and Josefa are listed with six children, none older than eight years. (Population of the El Paso District in 1682, Mid-America Magazine, 1941, p.63) The two children with him in 1680 could have either died or married.
Baltasar and Francisca apparently were married before 1694. Their daughter Jacinta was born about 1694.
Francisca Montoya is associated with Diego Montoya and Josefa Hinojos, and known members of their family in the following appearances:
On April 25, 1700 at Bernalillo, Baltasar and Francisca were witnesses in the marriage of Diego's son, Salvador, to Manuela Garcia.
On Feb. 27, 1700 at Bernalillo, in the only four baptisms performed that day: in the first one, Baltasar Romero and Francisca Montoya are padrinos; in the second, Diego Montoya and Francisca Montoya are padrinos; in the third, a Asencio Pacheco and Maria de Ynojos (probably Josefa); and, in the fourth, for a daughter of Antonio Gallegos and Rosa Montoya, a known daughter of Diego, Baltasar Romero and Francisca Montoya are padrinos.
In all probability, Francisca Montoya was the daughter of Diego Montoya and Josefa Hinojos.
Francisca married Baltasar Romero.
