Marcus Knox is the second son of William Knox of Selvieland and his wife Margaret Maxwell. MacFarlane, pp. 280-81 Memoirs, p. 18
Marcus Knox was enrolled as a burgess and guild brother of Glasgow on 30 March 1585. He was admitted in right of his marriage to the daughter of a burgess. The name of his wife is not mentioned in his burgess record Burgesses and Guild Brethren of Glasgow, 1573-1750, page 16 but it seems quite likely, probable even, that she is Margaret Greenlees. She is noticed as his future wife on 16 February 1584-85. Glasgow Protocols IX: 2675
Marcus Knox served as treasurer of Glasgow in the period before 6 April 1599. Glasgow Burgesses, p. 26
Marcus Knox died before 26 May 1630. Hattie S. Goodman, The Knox Family etc. (Whiter & Shepperson, Richmond, Virginia, 1905), page 255, where Deeds recorded in the Registers of the Commissariot of Glasgow is cited
Marcus Knox married Isobell Lyon. Descendants of Archibald Lyon
Marcus Knox married Margaret Greinleis.
