CROSS, William (-1656, 1655) & [Margaret] ?WEECHE, m/2 Robert BATES; ?11 Nov 1630; Windsor, CT/Wethersfield/Fairfield, CT"[1] Additions and Corrections to the Families of Old Fairfield[2] says he may be the William Crosse who m. 11 Nov. 1630 Margret Weeche (St. Mary Magdalen, Taunton, co. somerset, Eng.).[3] Unfortunately, Jacobus did not elaborate.

Williams estate did not name his chidren, but mentioned a wife and orphans. The following children are all related to each other and in the right place at the right time. The estates of Samuel and John establish this relationship.[5]

Jacobus in Families of Old Fairfield, also names these children.[6]

  1. Nathaniel: twice married; daughter by first wife; Josiah Willard of Wethersfield's estate owned him money in 1674.[5]
  2. Samuel married Elizabeth (Fox) Chapman. Their two children died as infants. He died 5 Nov 1707. His Will names wife Elizabeth; son-in-law (stepson) Simon Chapman; brother John Cross; the daughter of brother Nathaniel Cross had by his first wife; and cousins (nieces and nephews and grand nephew Ephraim Phelps) John Bates, Samuel Bates, Jonathan Bates, Sarah Kitchum, Jonathan Jaggers, Hannah Webb, James Pickett, Mary Hoit and Ephraim Phelps.[5][7]
  3. John Cross of Windsor m. Mary (Hull) Grant. They had a daughter Hannah b. 1694, d. 1696. she had children by her first husband John Grant. He died 23 July 1721 and administration of his estate was given to Symon Chapman of Windsor and later also Joshua Hoyte of Stamford. Distribution was to his widow, Mary, to the heirs of Nathaniel Cross deceased, the heirs of Sarah Bates deceased, heirs of Mary Pickett deceased, and to heirs of Hannah Jagger deceased (all his siblings). His brother Samuel had no blood heirs and so does not figure in this distribution.[5][7]
  4. Sarah m. John Bates of Stamford. Her heirs shared in the distribution of her brother John's estate. Her sons John, Samuel, Jonathan received legacies as "cousins" in the will of her brother Samuel.[5]
  5. Hannah m. John Jagger of Stamford. Her heirs shared in the distribution of her brother John's estate. Her children Sarah Ketchum, Jonathan Jaggers, and Hannah Webb, and her grandson, Ephraim Phelps, received legacies as "cousins" in the will of her brother Samuel. Hannah's daughter Mary Jagger married 1691 Ephraim Phelps. Thier son. Ephraim Sr died 30 Oct 1697, leaving a will requesting that "my Uncles (of his wife) Samuel and John Cross of Windsor and Samuel Webb of Stamford (husband of his wife's sister) to be overseers.[5]
  • *Children of John Jagger & Hannah:
    • *(1) Elizabeth b. 1665/6 d. May 1686.
      • (2)Hannah b. 1667/68. m. Samuel Webb.
      • (3) Sarah b. 1669/70, m. Ketchum.
      • (4) Mary b. 1672/73; m. first 21 May 1691 Ephram Phelps. They had Ephram Phelps b. nov 1663, d. 28 Sept 1692; Sarah m. second John Copp.
      • (5)Jonathan b. Stamford 1674/75.[8]
  1. Mary. m. 19 Jan 1672/3 John Pickett Jr of Statford, Connecticut. Her heirs shared in the distribution of her brother John's estate, and her children, James Pickett and Mary Hoyt, received legacies as "cousins" in the will of her brother Samuel.[5]
