Some records show her first name spelled Margarett. Some records show her name as Marey Elizabeth Byrd.

Margaret Chambers vs. Riley Chambers 13 Dec 1867

Charge: Adultery (no one named). Plaintiff restored to the rights of a single woman. Riley Chambers was to pay Margaret Chambers the amount of a claim he is prosecuting against teh Untied states for backpay and bounty of his and Margaret's son, who was a private in the 1st Tenn Vols. Infantry and died while in the service of the United States and that the payment of the said alimony which is the back pay and bounty of the son of Riley Chambers be and the same is declared a lien on the lands of Riley Chambers and said lein is subject to the further action of this court, and if same is not paid on or befoore the next term of this Court the land of said Riley Chambers will be decreed to the said Margaret Chambers as an inheritance in fee simple.
