Margaret Cogswell (Gifford)

Margaret Gifford, possibly a widow as her name is given in the Ipswich records as "Mrs. Margrett Giffard," married John Cogswell on 22 Jul 1674, in Ipswich, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1]

Margaret and John had seven children whose births appear in the Ipswich records: [2]

It should be noted that, at the birth of Samuel Cogswell, on 23 Feb 1693/4, the record indicated that the father was "John, Sr.," which would seem to indicate that there had been a birth, not reflected in the surviving records, of a child named John. Indeed, in the next generation, there is a John Cogswell, Jr. siring children in Ipswich.
