Margaret Upshaw Cox of Abilene passed away Friday, May 01, 2009 at a local nursing center.

Services will be held at North's Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange Street at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9th. The Reverend Clifford Lester will be officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Mausoleum in Abilene.

Mrs. Cox was born July 11, 1914 in Stamford, Texas to Thomas A. and Josephine Ragsdale Upshaw. She graduated from Hardin Simmons University in 1936. She was a school teacher before she married Seth Cox in Stamford in 1939. She and Seth were in Dallas while he attended Baylor Dental School. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Seth joined the Army Air Corp and they were stationed in several different places in the U.S.

After the war, Seth and Margaret were first in Stamford, then in Abilene where he set up his dental practice. In 1948, they moved to Illinois where Seth began his residency in oral surgery and Margaret taught first grade. They returned to Abilene two years later and Margaret became involved in playing golf, gardening, and homemaking. She was a member of Saint Paul Methodist Church. She was president of Pensadoras and of the Abilene Garden Club. She spent many hours china painting and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Seth Cox. She is survived by her son, Barton Cox and wife Beth of Honolulu, daughter Sarah Robinson and husband Clark of Abilene, four grandchildren: Seth Cox and wife Judy of Denver, Clark Robinson IV and wife Michelle of Boise, Leslie Haydon and husband Scott of Austin, and Noah Sheetz and wife Tara of New York, seven great -grandchildren: Parker Haydon, Hayes Haydon, Ella Haydon, Tildon Robinson, Claire Robinson, Natalie Cox and Christopher Cox, and one sister, Era Jo Lester of Abilene.
