Margaret (Maggie) Shelby Dehlin
Mom passed peacefully in her sleep while in the care of Valley View Nursing Home on September 12, 2018 at the age of 97. Copperfield, Oregon was where Mom was born on March 30, 1921 to Sherman and Leotie (Todd) Shelby. Growing up with 11 brothers and sisters was both a blessing and challenge. Her older brothers and sisters always cared for and protected her, but times were often difficult and early in her life the family lived in a tent. After attending school through the 8th grade, Mom and Dad (Gilbert Leo Dehlin) met when she was 19 when he was leaving for WWII and Mom was joining the Women's' Auxiliary Corps. When Gib returned from the war in 1945, they were married and lived together happily for 65 years until Gib died on June 15, 2011. Mom loved her family and tried to keep up with all of Dad's outdoor activities. She followed him fishing, back packing, archery hunting, cross-country skiing, golfing and became an accomplished photographer. In her free time before retirement, she worked full time as a saleswoman at JC Penny. She is survived by her two children, Ronald L Dehlin (Roxann Howell) of Nampa and Margaret Jean Stanley (Neal) of Meridian. They were blessed with four grandchildren, Todd Dehlin (Jodi), Amy Dehlin Sanford, Richard Stanley (Taylor), Robin Stanley Kearns (Dave) and nine great grandchildren: Emily, Kendra, and Cade Sanford; Marjie Dehlin, Eli Kearns, Riker and Bear Stanley, and Christian and Breana Oritz. Committal services will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018. Services will be under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. Following the service, a reception will be held at the home of her son, Ron. The family would like to thank Valley View Nursing Home personnel for their compassionate care during Maggie's last days.
