About Margaret Hamilton
LADY MARGARET HAMILTON
Spurious Pedigree
The existence of Lady Margaret Hamilton, here treated, is uncertain. She may sometimes have been confused with Barbara Hamilton For the suggestion that it was Lady Barbara Hamilton who married Alexander Gordon, rather than Lady Margaret Hamilton, see Darryl Lundy's Peerage For the suggestion that it was Lady Margaret Hamilton who married Alexander Gordon see Hamilton Memoirs, p. 118
Lady Margaret Hamilton is said to be the daughter of James Hamilton, Earl of Arran, and his wife Lady Margaret Douglas. According to James Anderson: "Lady Margaret, married to Alexander, Lord Gordon, eldest son of George, fourth Earl of Huntly, who died before his father without issue." Anderson cites Wood's Peerage, Volume I, page 648, Hamilton Memoirs, p. 118 but this is not reflected in Sir James Balfour Paul's Peerage accounts. The Scots Peerage, IV, p. 370 Ibidem, p. 536
